The “Nalanda Sketching Club” was inaugurated on July 28, 2024, at the “Nalanda Innovation Hub” in Rathnapura, marking a significant milestone for sketching and art enthusiasts in the region. Renowned watercolor artist and sketching expert Sanjeewee Senevirathna played a pivotal role in the event, sharing his expertise and inspiring budding artists.
Invited by Vishaka Ellawala, founder of the Nalanda Innovation Hub, Sanjeewee contributed to the inaugural day’s success. The morning session featured the club’s first Watercolor Sketching Workshop, led by Sanjeewee, where participants learned the fundamentals of sketching, explored sketching materials, and gained valuable insights into creating expressive works.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the club’s first “Plein Air Sketching session “at the scenic Sambodhi Vihara in Batugedara. Under Sanjeewee’s expert guidance, members experienced the joy of creating art in nature, learning how to lay the foundations of on-the-spot sketches with watercolor techniques.
Sanjeewee’s international experience and passion for art made the day both educational and inspiring, leaving a lasting impression on participants. His involvement set the tone for the club’s mission to nurture creativity, collaboration, and artistic growth in Rathnapura.
