From July 2 to September 30, 2024, Sri Lankan artist Sanjeewee Senevirathna showcased his extraordinary talent in a solo watercolor landscape exhibition held at the prestigious Southeast Art Museum, Suzhou, China. Featuring 40 stunning artworks, the exhibition highlighted the beauty and cultural essence of Sri Lanka, China, and Italy.
Senevirathna’s paintings beautifully captured Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, serene countryside, iconic architecture, and enchanting seascapes. The exhibition also included a captivating series inspired by the traditional Dong architecture of Sanjiang, created during his plein air sessions last year. Furthermore, it featured an exquisite collection of Italian architectural landscapes, with scenes from Rome, Venice, Fabriano, Milan, Lecco, and Padova, showcasing his passion for Italy’s artistic allure.
A grand celebration on September 23, 2024, marked the exhibition’s success and underscored the cultural exchange between China and Sri Lanka. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Tang Liang, curator and director of the Southeast Art Museum, and other notable figures from the art world such as Jiang Yiqiu, Xu Liangnan, Zhu Haixiang, and Gao Weiming.
This exhibition not only celebrated Senevirathna’s artistic mastery and outstanding achievements but also fostered a deeper connection between the rich artistic traditions of Sri Lanka, China, and Italy.
